the backside of the postcard

The backside is done very simply, there will not be a great deal of text about what we are trying to get across. Too much info makes the postcard look like an advertisement.

postcard designs

The two big slogan we liked are "Never the same again" and "you are a part of this".
The postcards can be mailed out or simply posted up on walls in coffee shops and other stores making them accessible for people to take them at their leisure.

On the back of them there will be a website address to this blog so they can view the process we are working through and gain more knowledge about the topic. We hope this blog will be an extension of our work and further engage the community.

editing video

After hearing the teacher's feedback we realized there may be racial reference within our film, we also realized there may be an issue with clarity. The video was meant to be simple so that it would catch peoples attention, leave them curious and force them to delve deeper into our information.

There may be confusion because it is so out of the blue. so, we decided to put some simple text to it so the visuals make more sense.

possible printed project book ideas

Gentrification is like the picture above, it spreads. This is our idea of showing how it does it to the public to let them know what is happening. It will start in clumps and groups and eventually spread out and color the area it's taken; the tea bag it self is drained out.

For the cover we thought a plain print out is too simple. It would be more attractive if it was more handmade, the cover will have a huge tea bag on it and tea inside!

The booklet we are making is also going to be in the shape of the tea bag, it is going to be very simple with just pictures and a few slogans.

working on tea bag animation: the set

We started out having to differentiate the poor and the rich. there is the spoon that we dress up with his suitcase. there is the teabag. we just want to do a simple metaphor of gentrification. objects will have its representations.

we are just trying to make people aware of what is happening with their community and rise awareness. and it is their decision to make if they are oppose or agree. so, the spoon, business man, is in pink, not black. becasue black have this association with "bad".

we picked out very simple objects that can be found around us so we would feel more related to it.

video in what form???

the video is not going to be a plain shot of just us video recording with a camera. and i think it should be more interesting than just flashing different pictures. it should be somewhere between there. so, stop motion animation came to mind. how ever, in the video, there is not going to be any object being animated. it is just going to be a more complex form of just a video with pictures flashing through.

everyone liked the tea bag idea. so, maybe we should make the tea bag idea into a stop motion animation too! have not discuss with everyone yet. but this is going to be on the side with the main film. it's a commercial where it's animated and we can make ads and poster and incorporate into our booklet.

night visit to Williamsburg

This was my (reported by shuya) first visit to Williamsburg. i have to say it is nothing like how i pictured. the type of people who lives there varies from this end of the spectrum to the other side.

Lots of construction going on in many places. but i can see it's starting from a point and it is spreading out.

a nice condo/apartment.

factory on the other side of the street form the new building.
i mean, it's so different that you just have to cross the street to be in a totally different place. the feeling is so...complicated almost.

this is old williamsburg.
more and more construction as i walk down the street.

this sign was on the gate of the construction that is going on. i didn't get it at first, and then i was like, Oh...

This too.
